Open call for appreticeship program – 2026

Are you a Ugandan emerging visual artist, a secondary-level art student, a refugee artist, fresh art graduate or an unexhibited and unrepresented creator within the first two years of your artistic career? This program is for you. We are now accepting applications for the 2026 Metamorphosis Program at Kiggundu Art Studio.

The Apprenticeship Program is making 3 years. Since its inception in 2023, the program has supported a diverse group of 10 talented emerging artists and 2 secondary school students aged between 12 to 30yrs serving as a springboard to not only help launch their artistic careers but also accompany them as they grow and navigate their creative journeys.
Because of this, we’ve answered some of the common frequently asked questions about the program.

> Who is eligible to apply for the Apprenticeship (Metamorphosis) Program?

For now the program is open to emerging visual artists, secondary school art students, fresh Art Graduates from University, unexhibited or unrepresented creators within their first two years of artistic practice. These have to be living and residing in Uganda at the time of application. Artists from Refugee settings, Street Artists are also welcome to apply

> What is the duration and structure of the program?

The program runs for one year and is module-based, delivered quarterly across Personal, Professional, and Community Development. (The three major Modules). These are beefed up by studio grit workshops, Open studios, Community month and Exhibitions.

> What do the apprentices learn/gain?

Participants gain artistic skills, mentorship, professional development, exhibition opportunities, and community engagement experience. This holistic approach nurtures the individual artist growth, strengthening their professional skills, and fosters meaningful community engagement post the apprenticeship. They also become part of the studio’s wider community.

> Is there a cost to participate, and are scholarships or stipends available

Participation details, including fees or support, will be communicated to selected applicants.

> How and when will applicants be notified of selection results?

Selected applicants will be contacted via email or phone after the application review process is complete.
